HARRISON STATEMENT ON RUSSIAN INFLUENCE ON ELECTION AND TRUMP ADMINISTRATION

Jaime Harrison released the following statement today on President-elect Trump’s nomination of Exxon Mobil CEO Rex Tillerson for Secretary of State. Tillerson has been critical of international sanctions against Russia, which were imposed by the U.S. and our allies in response to the illegal Russian annexation of Crimea. Russian President Vladimir Putin awarded Tillerson the Order of Friendship in 2013. Tillerson’s nomination comes on the heels of reports that the CIA concluded that Russia engaged in cyber espionage with the goal of helping Donald Trump defeat Hillary Clinton.

“Putin and his henchmen helped Donald Trump win the election, and it appears that the nomination of Putin pal Rex Tillerson for Secretary of State is Trump’s way of saying ‘spasiba.’ The Senate must act in the U.S. national interest and say ‘nyet.'”
