Breaking News: Jaime’s First in the South Forum Wins Top Award

A note from Jaime:

During this campaign, I have talked about how I spearheaded the First in the South Presidential Forum in November 2015.  Disappointed that South Carolina had only been given one debate (compared with three in 2008), I took it upon myself to plan another major event in our state.  I reached out to the candidates, the DNC, MSNBC, and my fellow Southern State Party Chairs to put together an additional event to give voters another opportunity to see the candidates up close.  We held the forum at Winthrop University in Rock Hill.

The event was a smashing success, bringing 4,000 people and an international TV audience to Winthrop.  So I was delighted but not surprised to read today that Winthrop won the top award for special events at the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) District III conference, beating out 30 other entries.  Winthrop put together a great video showcasing the day’s events; watch here:

This is a perfect example of how the Democratic Party must build itself up by building up people and institutions in every community in America. The award was presented to Winthrop, but everyone involved came out a winner thanks to the hard work of our State Party. This is how I’ll build our Party in every community across America.
